This
course explores the expressive possibilities
of sculpting the human figure in clay.
There will be a brief introduction into
the history of the figure in art and
its uses in different cultures around
the world as well we will study anatomy
and realistic proportion. We will investigate
a variety of forming methods including
coiling, slab work, extruded forms and
armature. The final weeks of this
course will focus on surface solutions
including terra sigilattas, underglazing,
texture, surface oxides and other non-firing
methods. All skill and experience levels
are welcome to join. Clay is not
included in the course fee.
Anna
Vaughan is a nationally exhibiting multi-media
artist whose work explores concepts
of family, migration and memory.
She is an instructor for the Richmond
Art Center, teaching ceramics and sculpture,
and a lecturer at Laney College, where
she teaches courses in studio arts.
Ms. Vaughan has been a juror for exhibition
programs at the Oakland Museum of California,
and has helped organize and curate exhibitions
for several non-profit galleries including
Pro-Arts Gallery, NIAD Art Center, and
Cell Space. BFA Kansas City Art Institute,
MFA Mills College.
