Intermediate Darkroom Photography

Tim Gonzalez-Mena
Mondays 7:00—9:00 PM
6 weeks starting July 14

$160 / $130 UCB students (price includes 12 hrs. darkroom use outside of class)
This course is for students who have completed a beginning photo class and/or have a thorough knowledge of black and white developing and printing processes. The course includes classroom meetings and darkroom demonstrations. The fee includes 12 hours of lab time for students to work on projects outside of class. Concentration will be directed toward the technical and aesthetic resolution of photographic images. Technical issues will include refining exposure and development controls to produce better negatives, and techniques for producing the best possible print. Aesthetically, students will be encouraged to develop the ability to narrate visually and to move beyond the obvious ways a photograph conveys meaning. Class time will also be devoted to discussion of contemporary photographic issues.

Tim Gonzalez-Mena received his BFA in Photography from San Jose State University. He likes to take long drives with his camera friend, Yahsi. Tim’s photographs have been hung in various galleries around the San Francisco bay area, and on friend’s walls everywhere. He currently lives in Oakland, California and enjoys baking pizza and turning oranges into juice. For more work go to timgmena.com
