Intermediate Darkroom Photography

12 hrs. darkroom use outside of class)
This course is for students who have
completed a beginning photo class and/or
have a thorough knowledge of black and
white developing and printing processes.
The course includes classroom meetings
and darkroom demonstrations. The fee
includes 12 hours of lab time for students
to work on projects outside of class.
Concentration will be directed toward
the technical and aesthetic resolution
of photographic images. Technical issues
will include refining exposure and development
controls to produce better negatives,
and techniques for producing the best
possible print. Aesthetically, students
will be encouraged to develop the ability
to narrate visually and to move beyond
the obvious ways a photograph conveys
meaning. Class time will also be devoted
to discussion of contemporary photographic
issues.
Tim
Gonzalez-Mena received his BFA in Photography
from San Jose State University. He likes
to take long drives with his camera
friend, Yahsi. Tim’s photographs
have been hung in various galleries
around the San Francisco bay area, and
on friend’s walls everywhere.
He currently lives in Oakland, California
and enjoys baking pizza and turning
