INTERMEDIATE DARKROOM PHOTOGRAPHY

CLASS SYLLABUS

WEEK 1 Classroom:
1. Review of normal film processing
2. Metering
-- Using grey card
-- When to override indicated meter reading, identifying difficult metering situations
-- Determining subject contrast by taking shadow and highlight reading
3. Changing exposure and development to reduce or increase film contrast
4. Intro to various paper types; using fiber based paper
5. Slides and discussion; forming a body of work

WEEK 2 Darkroom:
1. Printing demonstration
-- Processing fiber based paper
-- Split filter burning and didging
-- Flashing paper
2. Assignment: Visit local photo gallery (TBA) Discussion to follow in week 5.

WEEK 3 Classroom:
1. Zone system: exposing for shadow detail, developing for highlight detail
2. Group critique of student work
3. Exposing with filters; bleaching and toning prints
4. Slides

WEEK 4 Darkroom:
1. Supervised printing

WEEK 5 Classroom:
1. Group critique
2. Discussion on photo exhibition (from earlier gallery visit)
3. Print presentation
4. Slides

CLASS 6 Darkroom:
1. Supervised printing session
