Learning to Photograph

John Ferdico
Wednesdays 7:00—9:30 PM
5 weeks starting April 9

$90 / $80 UCB students

What distinguishes a compelling photograph from a snapshot? This course will introduce beginning photographers to the visual elements that comprise the language of photography. Through weekly photographic assignments on color slide film, you’ll learn to operate your camera, select and capture the most visually interesting elements of your subject, and add impact to your images. Students need access to a 35mm camera that has manually adjustable exposure controls. No point-and-shoots! Film and processing are not included in course fee.

John Ferdico received his BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. He is the recipient of the 1995 Society of Contemporary Photography Fellowship. He teaches at Sonoma State University and Santa Rosa Junior College. His work was most recently on view at Pro Arts in Oakland.
