Plastic
Camera Photography Workshop
Nathan Koch
Saturdays 2:00–4:00 PM
3 weeks starting June 21
$130 / $110 UCB students
*Price includes purchase of a
Holga camera
The Holga camera is a
plastic “toy” camera,
known for its simplicity and for
its dreamlike photos-- an unsophisticated
device capable of quite sophisticated
imagery. In this class you will
explore the creative possibilities
of these non-conventional cameras.
Class will begin with
a display of Nathan's personal
collection of toy cameras - many
of them functional. We will then
unwrap our new Holgas. After instruction
in their use, and a discussion
of their unique qualities, we
will venture into the light and
play with our new toys. Upon our
return, we will learn how to process
film and make our own black and
white enlargements. This class
is ideal for beginning and intermediate
photographers alike who want to
discover a new, non-conventional
approach to photography. It is
also an ideal class for anyone
who wants to have the most fun
possible while learning.

Nathan Koch
received his MFA in photography
from San Francisco Art Institute
in 2002, and his BFA in photography
and printmaking from Metro State
College of Denver in 1999. His
experience encompasses a breadth
of processes from the archaic
to the cutting edge. Alternative
processes, digital photography
and "toy” cameras are
his specialties.
